Onamia makes a presentation at the Developer’s Conference .
Orion attended and presented at the AD64 “Back to Business” Conference at Cal State Dominguez Hills in January 2017. The conference was organized to inform developers and stakeholders of the resources and tools to address environmental challenges at Brownfields in the 64th district.
Orion’s president Jeff and project manager Onamia were invited to the workshop by Matt Winefield of Winefield and Associates and Mike Gipson, the assemblymember of the 64th district in Los Angeles. The 64th district includes the cities of Carson, Compton, and East Rancho Dominguez.
During her presentation, Onamia told the audience about state and federal funding programs available for Brownfield properties including programs administered by the State Water Resources Control Board, California Department of Toxic Substances Control, and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Her goal was to inform stakeholders and developers how to access the funding sources and how to leverage the funding for redevelopment.
Other presenters included Matt Winefield, Ignacio Dayrit from the Center of Creative Land Recycling, Richard Rojas from the City of Carson, and Michael Galvin from the Port of Los Angeles.
The topics discussed hold special meaning for Onamia, who was born and raised in South Los Angeles. “My heart has always been to help my local community. I am truly passionate about the economic and redevelopment potential in South LA and other blighted areas. Although my community is underserved and suffers from environmental injustice, I believe my community can be a profitable investment for interested parties. These conferences allow me to reach audiences and get them to rethink how they see the ‘hood’.”
