Project:
Former Service Station
Bottom Line: Managed UST and source soil removal and site demolition/restoration during initial stages of site investigation and remediation.
Summary of Project
The site formerly contained an automobile service station with three 12,000-gallon gasoline USTs and one 500-gallon waste oil UST. The service station operator abandoned the facility and Orion’s client was the primary party responsible for site cleanup. Orion evaluated the initial site conditions, developed an approach for removal of the station structures, and reported to multiple entities.
- Managed site demolition including removal of the single-walled steel USTs, demolition of site structures, and restoration of the area for parking and landscaping. Prepared work plans, obtained permits, conducted construction management, collected soil samples, and coordinated with regulatory agencies for facility removal.
- Encountered gasoline-impacted soil beneath the three gasoline USTs and managed the excavation and offsite disposal of shallow contaminated soil.
- Performed a monitored natural attenuation (MNA) evaluation to as part of site evaluation.
- Completed an in situ video taping to record construction details of existing groundwater monitoring wells.
- Determined the number and location of additional soil borings and groundwater monitoring wells to delineate the extent of the impacted soil and groundwater plume in response to RWQCB requirements.
